Yearly Archives:: 2011
Last week we launched our new Southern Bride & Groom website. As you can see, the site has had a facelift! We still have the same user-friendly general structure of our site, which has been a leading wedding planning resource for the North Carolina Triangle Area and beyond for years. But we have improved the look, and also added some new fun features:
• ability to read the entire 2012 magazine online!
• a planning index page in addition to the sidebar full of various categories of wedding vendors
• an inspirations page which currently has some promo videos, and will soon have photo galleries
• an about us page so you can get to know the SB&G team
With the new website format, I’ll be doing more Real Wedding Features than ever on our site and blog. Please submit your engagement story, wedding event or actual wedding for consideration!
The Durham Herald Sun mentioned SB&G’s 25th Anniversary in their “Career Briefs” today. Read their full post HERE!
The Southern Bride & Groom team is thrilled to announce our 25th Anniversary Edition has arrived!
We are so proud to be a part of the Triangle wedding industry, and so grateful to all of the talented wedding professionals who are a part of this inspirational Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill wedding resource. This year”s magazine is our finest yet, and we are so pleased to be sharing it with you all!
Our Winter/Spring Cover came to us magically… For our floral shoot, Fresh Affairs put together such a mind-blowing table arrangement in stunning silver and white, and Photography by Walters and Walters did such a phenomenal job of capturing the image on film, we just couldn”t resist using it as our Silver Anniversary launch cover!
Over the next couple of weeks, we”ll be hand-delivering our magazines to our nearly 200 distribution points in the Triangle. In the meantime, drink in the gorgeous new 2012 cover!
The Triangle”s most trusted bridal magazine and online wedding resource guide will give one lucky couple a photo shoot that will be published in the magazine
Southern Bride & Groom (SB&G), the Triangle”s most trusted bridal magazine and online wedding planning resource, is launching a contest for real brides and grooms to apply for their own couple photo shoot. The winner”s photos will be featured in the next issue of the magazine, to be published December 2012.
Engaged or newly married couples can apply to this contest by submitting their engagement photos to SB&G on the website”s Real Weddings page. The deadline is May 1, 2012. “SB&G has grown along with the Triangle area, and I feel privileged that we”ve been able to be a part of the amazing wedding industry in this area for 25 years,” said Donna Parks, publisher. “Our goal has been to bring exceptionally talented and reliable businesses to the attention of area brides, along with wedding planning and etiquette tips.” Parks founded SB&G as the region”s premiere bridal publication in 1986, and still runs the business today alongside her daughter and best friend,Jenna Parks Olender.
SB&G was the NC Triangle”s first bridal publication. It has grown over the years from a small wedding planning and etiquette guide, into the area”s most well-known bridal magazine and trusted directory of wedding services, featuring experienced, talented regional wedding vendors, inspirational fashion, floral, food, invitation and cake photographs, and several real wedding features.

Southern Bride & Groom is thrilled to announce that we are celebrating our 25th Anniversary in 2012!
My mother, Donna Parks, founded SB&G in 1986 as the premiere bridal publication in North Carolina. It has grown from a small wedding planning and etiquitte guide for the Triangle, into the most trusted bridal magazine and online resource in the Greater Triangle of NC. The philosophy behind SB&G was to grow the magazine slowly, adding only the most reliable of wedding venues and vendors to the magazine each year. Today, my mom and I work side by side at this business, and we are proud to promote the best of the best wedding resources in the Greater Triangle Area. We feel confident that any vendor our brides (and grooms!) find in SB&G are going to be top-knotch and deliver the best possible service on their wedding day.
One of the ways we have maintained a high caliber of resources is by developing relationships with our fellow wedding professionals, but another way is getting feedback from our brides. We now feature more real Triangle brides” weddings than ever, and we always welcome wedding planning questions and advice on vendors that will suit you. We are also hosting a contest for a real local bride and groom to win an SB&G photoshoot! (Submit your entry on the real weddings page of our site). Please feel free to contact me any time at firstname.lastname@example.org.
In honor of our 25th Anniversay, the SB&G Team (Donna Parks, Jenna Parks Olender and Patricia Campbell, our Art Director) teamed up with local photographer Craig Carpenter of Luster Studios to create a style shoot. We found an amazing handpress from the 1850”s at Artisan Printer, located in Durham”s Goldenbelt. We had a little fun with Brian Allen”s beautiful machine, creating momentos of that read “SB&G 25.” What a fun experience to touch on the history of printing while honoring the SB&G history. Enjoy Luster”s photography below!
I had the privilege of attending one of the 57,000 weddings that took place on 11/11/11.
And even better, the couple – my brother-in-law, Brian and new sister-in-law, Katie – tied the knot in THE city of weddings: Las Vegas!
The ceremony was at the wedding chapel at the Mandalay Bay, a beautiful hotel/casino on the famous “Strip” of Las Vegas Blvd. The quick ceremony was especially fun and memorable due to the fact that Elvis showed up to sing a tune to welcome the couple in and also send them off as newly weds with well-wishes.
Following the ceremony, we headed over to Mix at The Hotel (part of Mandalay), a swanky restaurant on the 64th story of the hotel. Katie and Brian reserved the balcony, which towered over the strip and the lights of Vegas with an incredible view. Guests enjoyed hors d”oeuvres including chicken satay, sliders, sesame filet mignon, crab bites and tuna; wine and champagne; and a delicious Vegas-themed wedding cake.
Following the reception,Katie and Brian invited guests to enjoy bottle service in a private room at LAX nightclub at the Luxor Hotel & Casino. Friends and family enjoyed the private room overlooking the dance floor. Let”s just say the newest married Olenders knew how to do a Vegas wedding right!
