| Mary Craven and Burney
Friends, family and traditions embody the union of Mary Craven Hines and Christopher Burney Dawkins. Their event-filled four-day wedding weekend began with a treat-filled bag and custom-designed weekend brochure upon arrival at the Washington Duke Inn, before a Thursday evening cocktail party there to renew old friendships. Mary Craven’s family history with Duke goes back to the beginning of Duke University when her great-great-great-grandfather was president of then Trinity College. Mary Craven and Burney’s noon ceremony took place at Duke Chapel, where the bride’s own parents had been married, and included many special family traditions. The elegant gold-and-ivory reception was held at the Washington Duke Inn with exquisite southern food stations. Later that evening, guests were transported via coach to a lively after-party in Raleigh to continue the fun, where both wedding party and guests let their hair down and kicked up their dancing heels after a late night NC barbeque dinner. A goodbye Sunday brunch for departing guests was the last gathering for the treasured wedding weekend in the Triangle.
