Real Weddings – Candis and Casey

Candis and Casey

 May 29

Candis Davis & Casey Shandley met at Nelson’s (now Fosters) in Cameron Village through mutual friends, just before Candis moved to Greensboro for a higher education program. The two of them spent the next two months talking on the phone for hours at a time (and racking up $200-plus phone bills) before finally seeing each other again for their first official date. After that date, Casey visited Greensboro every week until Candis moved back to Raleigh a year and a half later.

Casey enlisted the help of Candis’s mother to organize the perfect proposal. After a dinner at Brio Tuscan Grill, a surprise dessert of chocolate-covered strawberries with champagne, and an engagement ring was brought out. Casey got on one knee to propose, and Mrs. Davis, hiding nearby, captured the moment on film! Both families then joined for a celebration.

They were married by Candis’s childhood pastor at Bayleaf Baptist Church. The wedding party was filled with family & friends, and Casey’s cousin sang during the ceremony.  The Olde South Trolley provided their wedding party transportation to the church, as well as to the reception at Brier Creek Country Club. The newlyweds arrived in an Excalibur Phaeton Convertible Rolls Royce, which also later escorted them away from the reception to their first married night at The Umstead Hotel & Spa.

Candis & Casey chose Brier Creek Country Club for their reception because they loved the setting and for the full-service package, including the delicious food. “One of the things we liked most was the help we received from Kristie Taylor, the catering manager at Brier Creek. She was extremely accommodating every time we met with her and always provided helpful advice without making us feel like we were being sold on things we didn’t want or need,” says Candis.

For colors, they chose Carolina blue to represent Casey’s UNC-CH alma mater and both of their favorite school – which they paired with a vibrant apple green. Fresh Affairs completed the décor with contemporary floral arrangements filled with cala lilies and hydrangeas. Sweet Memories’ designed a hexagon cake with a monogram detail and floral accents.

Candis and Casey’s wedding had several personal extra touches. Each table was named after something significant to their relationship complete with a photo and explanation (for example, the “Murphy” table was named after one of their two Labrador retrievers). Guests received a wedding day koozie to keep their beers cold while heating up on the dance floor, which was spiced up with a trendy spotlight monogram. An extra motive to get up and dance was that each person had sent in a song request with their invitation reply card. Each bridesmaid received her own monogrammed damask market basket from Candis, which was used to store make up and personal items on the wedding day.

Both Candis & Casey were raised in the Raleigh Area, where they now work and live. Candis works as a Physical Therapist Assistant for Triangle Orthopedic and Casey works in sales for RR Donnelley. The couple would like to thank Candis’s mom, Vicki Davis, for planning their beautiful wedding.
