It’s Wedding Feature Wednesday at Southern Bride & Groom! Today, we’re thrilled to share Meghan and Steve’s real NC wedding at Prestonwood Country Club. The two tied the knot at the beautiful country club in June, and Christa Davidson Photography captured some wonderful images!
Meghan and Steve met in geometry class during their freshman year of high school, but didn’t get along at all at first! Eventually, the duo slowly built a friendship and began dating the following year.
Steve planned a day trip to Oak Island, where he totally surprised Meghan by proposing. Of course, she said yes, and the two quickly headed back to Cary to share the good news and celebrate with their friends and family.
Meghan had been planning the wedding of her dreams for years, so when she and Steve got engaged, she knew exactly what she wanted, making her planning process simple and stress-free, especially with the help of Erin McLean Events. The couple booked the Prestonwood Country Club and chose a color palette of Tiffany blue and bright coral, which paired perfectly with their June wedding date. Meghan and Steve really wanted to infuse their own personalities into their wedding day — they married in the church where the bride was baptized and she wore her mother’s wedding gown. They paid homage to their alma mater — NC State — with their favorite sweet treat, Krispy Kreme donuts, as favors.

Recently, I enjoyed a renewing respite from the daily work grind at the expanded and newly redesigned Umstead Hotel & Spa in Cary. In the hustle and bustle of the wedding industry business, it’s hard to make time to wind down, but it seems the intensity of the week began to melt immediately upon entering the spa area of the hotel, with its soothing sounds and relaxing herbal scent.
After passing the nail salon section — that just happens to have the most luxurious pedicure leather lounges ever — the concierge greeted me warmly. She walked me through the new areas of the spa, which include a private outdoor coed wave pool that is privately placed amongst natural greenery (bathing suits required), an outdoor coed terrace for reading and relaxing in the sun, and a second floor lounge with snacks and drinks. The coed treatment room is also larger, and has its own private whirlpool. Wouldn’t a treatment for the newlyweds be just the perfect wedding gift?!
The women’s-only side of the spa is enlarged and has a lounge for relaxing and reading, a sauna, a steam room, a large whirlpool and refreshing private showers with everything you need for pampering. In the locker room, I changed into a plush terry robe provided and enjoyed the sauna and whirlpool before my scheduled facial.
Facials are not a regular treatment for me, but this one was a fabulous experience that I felt was offered by a true facial expert. The room, with its aromatherapy scents, the gentle musical notes, and enveloping warmth transported me to a dreamy place I hope to enjoy again soon. The next visit for me will be a reward for getting the SB&G magazine to press to enjoy one of my other favorite Umstead spa treatments — a full body massage. I did take a little bit of the spa home with me to enjoy by stopping to purchase some of their wonderful botanical washing scrub and lotions!
