Team SB&G is wrapping up photo shoot season…only a few remain for Southern Bride & Groom 2014, the Triangle’s number one wedding planning publication. And we are so excited!
Y’all know we like to keep most the details of each shoot under wraps until the magazine reveal, but we wanted to give you a sneak peek of our 2014 Cake Shoot. In our cake spreads, we like to give our readers ideas of new and exciting trends — from fancy, tiered cakes to fun, contemporary cakes, we’ve got it all, and we can’t wait to share it with you!
We’d like to say a huge thanks to all of the vendors involved in this shoot, including our photographer — Brian Mullins Photography, our amazing location — ThemeWorks, Bailey’s Fine Jewelry, Southern Season, and of course, all of our bakeries — Catering Works, Edible Art Bakery & Dessert Cafe, Gigi’s Cupcakes, Once in a Blue Moon Bakery, Sugarland, and One Belle Bakery.
Check out this Instagram collage for a preview of the delicious desserts our bakers created, and start to get excited about Southern Bride & Groom 2014!

Earlier this month, Team SB&G wrapped up yet another beautiful photo shoot for the 2014 edition of Southern Bride & Groom, your Triangle Area wedding resource. We had so much fun working with some members of our family of vendors, and can’t wait to share the full shoot with you when the magazine debuts! But for now, here’s a sneak peek just for you!
This time around, we shot our Couples Fashion spread as part of a Wedding Day styled shoot at the Renaissance Raleigh North Hills Hotel – one of the most chic and modern wedding venues in Raleigh. The shoot was complete with a wedding party, cake cutting and a fantastic, petal-filled, grand exit. To accomplish the look, we worked with Stacy Borelli of Swank Photo Studio – who went above and beyond to get the perfect shot.

This is another installment in our Floral Series from the 2013 edition of Southern Bride & Groom. This series is the perfect way to get floral inspiration for your big day! Today, we’re featuring the tabletop and bouquet designed by University Florist for our 2013 Floral Shoot. University Florist has been an integral part of the Chapel Hill floral scene since 1946, and carries the largest selection of flowers in the area. University Florist specializes in many different colors and types of roses, and their talented staff can create floral designs for any style bride, from traditional to contemporary!
For the 2013 Floral Shoot, University Florist designed a bright tangerine and orange tabletop and bouquet that creates a gorgeously rich vibe. The blend of ombre orange hues in the lilies, tulips and roses would be perfect for a North Carolina spring or fall affair, and pair beautifully with Rose Hill Plantation‘s beautiful ballroom and gold linen, china and flatware from Classic Party Rentals. University Florist added texture and original details with copper hand-designed chair embellishments and clementines accented with orange daisies at each place setting.
The lovely bride is wearing a stunning gown from Lana Addison Bridal, with hair and makeup by Bella Trio Day Spa. Thanks to Photography by Walters & Walters for the gorgeous photographs, some never-before-seen!

This is another installment in our Floral Series from the 2013 edition of Southern Bride & Groom. This series is the perfect way to get floral inspiration for your big day! Today, we’re featuring the tabletop and bouquet designed by Floral Dimensions for our 2013 Floral Shoot. Floral Dimensions is a professional florist owned and operated by Bea and Jon Miller, located right here in Durham, NC, that has been designing stunning floral arrangements for over 20 years!
For the 2013 Floral Shoot, Floral Dimensions designed an absolutely timeless all white and green tabletop and bouquet. All white arrangements exude elegance and class, and can elevate any event to a true black tie soiree. Placed on Rose Hill Plantation‘s beautiful ballroom patio, Floral Dimensions’ arrangements of hydrangeas, roses and passion vine are spectacularly displayed in glass vases of varying height and a lush floral runner.
We absolutely love the use of succulents — which are becoming one of the biggest trends in the wedding industry as of late — as place card holders and textural details in an otherwise classic design. Floral Dimensions even created the gorgeous stationary in this shoot at their Stationary Studio!
Thanks to Photography by Walters & Walters for these beautiful photos, some never-before-seen!
Last week, Team SB&G wrapped our first photo shoot of the year — our 2014 Floral Shoot! We purposefully plan the floral shoot — the largest and most detail-oriented shoot — for this time of year, partly because the weather is so wonderful and also because it gets us so pumped up for the rest of photo shoot season!
This year, we changed things up a bit and divided our Floral Shoot into two separate days so that we could show off two of our stunning wedding venues — the Sarah P. Duke Gardens and The Cotton Room. We lucked out on weather…it’s been the rainiest summer we can remember, but both of our shoot days were (mostly) dry!
Day one of the shoot took place at Duke Gardens — a quaint, picturesque spot right in the heart of Downtown Durham. The beautifully manicured lawn and gardens was the ideal backdrop for our florists’ soft and romantic designs. Our second half of the shoot was at The Cotton Room (and its adjoining Belt Line Station) — another popular Durham venue. The Cotton Room‘s bright and airy urban vibes perfectly offset the delicate, yet bold, floral designs.
James and Meridith of Photography by Walters & Walters paired up to document the breathtaking floral designs — from the tiniest details to jaw-dropping panoramics — which will give our readers a slew of inspiration for their own wedding tablescapes!
We’re going to keep most of the shoot under wraps for now (there’s a quick sneak peek below), but check out the list of SB&G Florists, Rental Companies, Bridal Boutiques and Beauty Salons – they are seriously amazing, y’all — and start to get excited for SB&G 2014…we certainly are! Thanks to all of our wonderful vendors who made both of our shoots go so smoothly, we are so excited to see the final product and share it with all of our readers!

I’m back in the office after a few days spent in Asheville, NC, at the legendary Biltmore Estate for engage!13 - the luxury wedding business summit. As a first-timer to this event, I wasn’t sure of what to expect (even my local wedding pro friends who had attended didn’t reveal too much other than “You will have THE BEST time!”).
I’d followed the social media buzz surrounding the event for some time (the first summit was 5 years ago), so I knew it was going to be great, but after experiencing it myself, I can attest that this event is personally and professionally life-changing! I was in heaven in the magical setting of the Biltmore Estate (and SO proud of NC, as attendees from NYC to Dubai commented on how amazingly beautiful our state is!), further enchanted by the gorgeous event spaces that the Biltmore and engage! teams created for each occasion – from the daytime presentations to the nighttime soirees (the finale Gatsby Gala is a night I will never forget!). I was more than impressed by the genius branding that was carried across every last detail, inspired and touched by the presentations by the crème de la crème of wedding icons and experts who not only shared their stories, business tips and trends – but really kept it real and showed us a glance into their very souls!
Thank you to Rebecca and Kathryn – the amazing team behind engage!13, to the Biltmore Estate for hosting, and to all of the speakers and sponsors who created this amazing experience and place for ideas to be exchanged and organic inspiration to grow! The wedding industry continues to push the envelope because of this event.
We’ll share more of the professional photo / video footage that documented the summit, but in the meantime, here is a collage of some of my Instagram trail from the week!

This is the first installment in our Floral Series from the 2013 magazine! Today, we’re featuring the table and bouquet by Flowers by Gary, a Durham shop owned by Gary Corsi-OConnor. Gary is an award winning, North Carolina Certified Professional Florist through the North Carolina State Florist Association with over 25 years of experience. He is also a member of the Society of American Florists and President of the local Northern Piedmont Florist Association.
For the 2013 Floral Shoot, Flowers by Gary put together a sweet, quintessential Southern tabletop and bouquet, complete with blue seersucker (swoon!), magnolia leaves, and hydrangeas — it doesn’t get more Southern than that, y’all! We set up in Rose Hill Plantation‘s Blue Room, and took to the stunning front lawn of the historic estate house for some model shots (including our beautiful Summer/Fall cover!) If you’re seeking floral inspiration that’s soulfully Southern, look no further than this shoot!
Enjoy these beautiful photos — some never-before-seen! — all shot by the talented husband and wife duo, Photography by Walters & Walters.
