Last week Team SB&G attended the Triangle NACE 2013 Awards Gala at one of Durham’s most prestigious venues, the Washington Duke Inn & Golf Club. NACE is the National Association of Catering and Events, and Southern Bride & Groom has been a member of this professional organization for the past 15 years – almost as long as there has been a Triangle Chapter here in North Carolina.
Each year, Triangle NACE celebrates the work that our amazing roster of event professionals does with an awards gala, in which members are up for “Best of” awards in a slew of categories from best wedding to best flowers at an event, to best plated meal, and so on.
This year’s Awards Gala was a Casablanca themed event. Guests were decked out in their best 1940s attire – ladies were donned in furs while the gents sported bowler hats. Prior to the awards ceremony, we mingled over martinis and snacked on delicious hors d’oeuvres while listening to soft jazz and tossing dice at casino tables.
We then were welcomed into “Rick’s Cafe Americain” for the award presentation, which had a mixed stadium and “loungey” cafe setup. The awards themselves were beautiful vintage plates – each one unique.
Southern Bride & Groom was honored to take home two awards for our work in 2013! We received the “Best Corporate Event” Award for our Shades of Blue-themed Customer Appreciation Party that we held at the Washington Duke Inn last spring. We also won an award for Best Printed Editorial, for our Sensational Southern Style Floral Shoot that appears in SB&G 2014. We have been doing a blog series spotlighting each of the tabletop displays that were created for this shoot, but you can see the entire spread in our digital magazine, beginning HERE. Thanks to Walters & Walters who helped make this shoot so beautiful by capturing each scene on film. To see more, check out our behind-the-scenes video.
Following the award ceremony, we enjoyed a delicious meal prepared by Washington Duke Executive Chef Jason Cunningham, Executive Sous Chef Andy Tucker and their well-polished team. A fresh salad on butter lettuce was topped with roasted beets and goat lady dairy chèvre. The entree was spice sea bass rubbed with pistachio olive and mint, and served with caramelized cauliflower, shaved fennel and a blood orange sauce. A dessert bar with all sorts of goodies prepared by the pastry team and a liquer and coffee bar was the exciting finale of the evening. During dinner, soft jazz continued to play, and we mingled in our Moroccan-inspired dining nooks.

I am honored to serve on the Board of Directors of this wonderful Triangle NACE Chapter for the third year in 2014. Here’s a great group shot of the whole board, dressed in theme for this event (President Laura Peterson is at center in red). Here’s to another great year!
