Several months ago, SB&G shared Damion and Donald’s downtown Raleigh engagement session on the blog and today we’re thrilled to follow up with their classy winter wonderland wedding at Prestonwood Country Club in Raleigh.
Damion and Donald met during a simple day hanging out shopping with mutual friends. There was an initial attraction, and luckily, a chance to reconnect when the two were invited to the same party of shared acquaintances. Soon after, they began dating, and so, what began as a simple encounter turned into a strong bond that would lead them on the path to marriage.
Donald went to great lengths to surprise Damion with his proposal. During what was supposed to have been a family trip to the Dominican Republic to celebrate a relative’ s birthday, Donald proposed. His proposal involved mass invitations to their friends and family who all knew of this secret proposal. He even went so far as to collect and compiled a video with well wishes from all their friends and family who could not attend.
Working with their planner/coordinator, Timeless Creations by Jay, they first set out to plan an engagement party in January 2015. They then got to work on selecting the right wedding venue. Although there were many beautiful venues in the Triangle, they found that none compared to the Prestonwood Country Club. “Not only was our first point of contact with the venue coordinator, Sondra, welcoming, the club’s reputation for service was clearly proven,” shares Damion. They wanted to have the wedding that neither of them believed they would ever have.
The couple blended together different themes to make the wedding uniquely their own, combining superhero elements, winter wonderland and classic elegance. Prestonwood Country Club pastry chef, Todd, designed a cake that incorporated their personal design wishes like superhero logos and snowflakes and the end result looked simply stunning! Ultimately, the goal was to create an event whereby the elements of fun, family, love and elegance culminated to create their ultimate fairytale wedding—a theme that remained true to who they are individually and as a couple.
The colors were classic black, white and red with winter elements added in like frosted branches, crystals, even the white dresses which adorned the grooms’ maids who got to try on their outfits during the groom’s “Say Yes to the Dress” brunch. The event was held in a family member’s home and was an opportunity for all of the matriarchal figures on both sides of the families to try on their dresses and have fun.
To keep the young ones entertained during the reception, Roll-on-Up Gaming of Cary (a mobile video game bus) provided hours of entertainment and an onboard game coach ensured the kids, and thereby, the adults all had a good time.
