Snow Wedding at Lavender Oaks Farm, Chapel Hill, NC
One bottle of lavender infused champagne into their tour, Max and Sarah knew that Lavender Oaks Farm was the perfect wedding venue to host their winter ceremony and reception. Max plays professional baseball, so the couple had only a four month window to pick their wedding date. A conversation with Lavender Oaks Farm owner Karen Macdonald made the decision quite easy. Macdonald coordinated the wedding day, and the couple raved about how “at home” they felt with her. Located in the countryside of Chapel Hill, Lavender Oaks Farm is home to 60 acres of forests, purple fields of lavender, and restored historic barns perfect for a NC wedding. Little did they know that their special day would turn out to be a snow wedding!
Heba Salama Photography expertly captured all of the beautiful and unique moment of Sarah and Max’s winter wedding. Sarah raved about Heba,
“We had an instant connection – it was like dealing with your best friend instead of a vendor, and her pictures reflect that.”
Enchanting Snow Engagement… and Wedding!
There’s something magical about snow. The miraculous sight of snowflakes sparks our inner child. For Sarah and Max, romantic moments in the freshly fallen snow have taken on an entirely new meaning. Max proposed to Sarah during a visit to a family home in Pennsylvania. An unexpected snowstorm didn’t stop his plans – nor did it stop her family from hiding behind a snowbank to celebrate the special moment. Exactly one year later, snow graced their January wedding day at Lavender Oaks Farm and the couple and their families knew it was nothing short of serendipity.
Winter Wedding Fashion
The glowing bride and her bridesmaids looked stunning with elegant winter style. Sarah’s long-sleeved lace bridal gown whispered winter fairytale romance. The groomsmen wore dark grey, and the ladies wore different styles of burgundy bridesmaid dresses. The colors contrasted magically with the white winter landscape. The palette also reminded the newlyweds of their alma mater, the University of South Carolina! Go cocks!
Winter Wonderland Wedding Ceremony at Lavender Oaks Farm
The natural beauty of the restored historic barn was enhanced with lavish greenery and vibrant florals. There was even a floral ring over the ceremony altar, which later enhanced their sweetheart table. Even the family dog, Nitty, was donned in a garland leash. The rich colors of the winter floral arrangements and fur stoles gave the winter wedding a romantic aesthetic.
There were also sentimental touches that were added into the day. Sarah carried charms with the wedding photos of each set of late grandparents in her bouquet. Their minister was the football coach and teacher from Cardinal Gibbons, the school where they first met!
Candlelit Reception in a Historic Chapel Hill Barn Venue, Lavender Oaks Farm
The Lavender Oaks Farm reception space was transformed by CE Rental. The design included winter greenery, and candlelight. Guests ate dinner below majestic pinewood restored beams in Lavender Oaks Farm. Sarah expresses her gratitude for the perfect winter wedding venue, which she calls “truly one of the prettiest places in NC.”
Sarah and Max’s reception even had a cigar roller from Amendola Family Cigar Co. The guests loved watching the hand rolling process, followed by smoking cigars outside by the fire. Sarah reflects on her winter wedding,
“As crazy as it sounds, my favorite moment of the wedding was taking pictures in the snow and bone chilling 16 degree weather. The sun was setting, we could hear everyone celebrating in the barn and Max and I were standing in a frozen field of lavender in the silence that only snow can bring. It was a special moment for just him and me.”
Guests returned home with hearts full of love and custom lavender sachets made by Lavender Oaks Farm. Today, Max and Sarah live happily ever after in Raleigh, NC.
