The historic, century-old victorian mansion, River Forest Manor in Belhaven, NC, was commissioned in 1899. This landmark has been carefully preserved and brought back to its original glory. Perfectly placed where the Pungo River and Pantego Creek meet, this quiet, charming venue was an idyllic location for “Rose” & “Fitz” to say “I do.”
“When we designed this shoot, we had in mind the challenge a lot of our clients face of blending the traditional tastes of their parents and their own modern style. Inspired by coastal NC, the historic River Forest Manor, and modern Southern hospitality, we selected a setting that blurs the lines of tradition and high-style in the coastal South,” explained Chelsey Morrison, owner of Gather Together. The ambiance and charming details were captured by photographer Renee Sprink.
Flowing drapes were added to the 30-foot tall porch and garden bench seating gave guests a perfect perch. Overflowing floral arrangements, lanterns and pineapples embellished the setting.
Soft azure watercolors and a custom monogram accented the couple’s invitation suite, ceremony programs and menus, with flowing calligraphy matching the waves of the surrounding water. The suite tipped off guests on what to expect for the party – formal, but not stuffy; lavish, but not overdone; a welcoming Southern celebration of love.
Fitz and his groomsmen donned a classic style with some modern flair – navy and black suits with statement bow ties made of game feathers. The bridesmaids wore long tulle Jenny Yoo gowns in soft pale green hues. Rose practically floated along the river in a gorgeous Blush by Hayley Paige gown with classic tulle bottom in a modern stacked skirt and strappy back.
The couple dined with their guests at long tables on the expansive front porch. The bride chose her mother’s classic wedding pattern, Mottahedeh’s “Tobacco Leaf” and mixed it with modern Anna Weatherly china accents and monogram napkins. Soft teal candle sticks in crystal candelabras, greenery, and white rose compotes were combined for stunning centerpieces. Linen chairs and silver lanterns framed the tables on all sides.
Each guest found his seat with a hand-calligraphed place card nestled into a miniature pineapple.
Five tiers of sweet perfection, this cream and gold cake tower struck a beautiful balance of old and new with magnolia accents. The lounge tent, fully draped with Spanish moss and greenery, looked as if it had existed on the property for years. Its centerpiece was a woven water hyacinth settee, chairs and a blue hammered drum coffee table where guests could gather and relax or have a drink from the boxwood bar.
