Classic Durham “I Dos” – a Duke Chapel Wedding paired with a Washington Duke Inn & Golf Club reception
It shouldn’t be hard to believe that many Durham NC weddings are driven by the exquisite Duke University Chapel. Summer and Scott planned their wedding from their Brooklyn residence for that very reason – a Duke Chapel wedding had been in the cards for Scott since before he was born. The couple’s vision for their day was classic and traditional. Duke Chapel and Washington Duke Inn & Golf Club were a natural fit for this criteria. To personalize the wedding for the couple, fuchsia, dusty blue and silver were used as color accents in a subtle and tasteful way. This beautiful traditional Duke Chapel wedding followed by a classic Washington Duke Inn & Golf Club reception was a day that will forever live in the hearts of Summer & Scott, thanks to the effortless planning of La Cosa Bella Events.
Summer & Scott’s Love Story
When Scott first met Summer on campus at Stanford, where he was a graduate student, he was smitten. He made sure that it wouldn’t be the only time he would run into the visiting artist from nearby Kala Institute at Berkeley. A few years later, the two had moved to Brooklyn. After a special dinner in NYC, Scott proposed in Central Park while a guitarist played one of Summer’s favorite Disney love songs.

Traditional Duke Chapel Wedding
Duke Chapel is one of the most widely sought after wedding ceremony locations in NC. Not only does it have rich history draping every inch of the chapel that makes any couple fall in love, it is also close to so many people’s hearts with family or personal ties to the university.
Couples with ties to Duke University camp out the first of every month trying to get their wedding date locked in for the following year and it’s no wonder why. The neo-Gothic architecture of the chapel, large stone piers, arches and sky high vaulted ceilings leave nearly nothing for a bride and groom to plan in order to add to its beauty. Duke University Chapel is already a work of art in and of itself. Summer and Scott’s traditional wedding at Duke Chapel perfectly complemented its already solidified charm.

Classic Wedding Reception at the Washington Duke Inn & Golf Club, one of Durham’s best hotels and event spaces
The Washington Duke Inn & Golf Club is one of the premier hotels for the Durham area, located on Duke University campus. With perfectly manicured lawns, rolling hills of the golf course, spectacular indoor scenery, and an incredible on sight restaurant, the Washington Duke Inn & Golf Club is one of the best wedding venues in Durham NC. The hotel is located conveniently near downtown Durham, but has the quiet charm of the countryside retreat.
Summer and Scott’s traditional wedding reception at the Washington Duke Inn & Golf Club was an extravagant affair. Bright fuchsia flower arrangements created a pop of color on the silver tables and decor. Special details meshed together the couple’s cultural backgrounds (like table signs with both English and Chinese numerals scripted for guests) made the celebration sentimental.
Traditional Chinese Red Wedding Dress
The bride and groom hold dancing near and dear to their hearts. You can see evidence in every photo their desire to be swept up in a dance number. Summer changed into a traditional Chinese red wedding dress to perform a breathtaking ballroom dance with her new husband during their reception at the Washington Duke Inn & Golf Club and for their send off from the celebrations.
