It’s Wedding Feature Wednesday at Southern Bride & Groom! Today we’re excited to share Becky and Eoin’s UNC Alum summer wedding at The Carolina Inn captured by the talented Robin Lin Photography.
Since Becky and Eoin were both in elementary school in Chapel Hill, their families lived less than a mile apart. As kids, they competed together for the Pacers running group, attended the same high school, and ran cross-country and track, but hardly knew each other until 2009 when Eoin graduated from Virginia Tech and moved back to Chapel Hill where Becky was a junior at UNC. They were reintroduced through mutual friends and discovered how much they had in common, including their love of endurance sports, movies, music and traveling. Five years later, they were engaged!
Shortly before Eoin was born, his parents left their hometown of Limerick, Ireland so his father could attend graduate school. Eoin grew up spending his summers in Ireland visiting family, often staying in Mt. Cashel, a beautiful lodge in Sixmilebridge just outside of Limerick. In September 2014, Becky went on her first trip to Ireland with Eoin and his parents. They spent several days visiting family and exploring Dublin, Limerick, and several other places including Adare, where his parents were married 30 years ago. One evening after returning to Mt. Cashel, Eoin asked Becky to walk down to the lake behind the house. On the dock with beautiful views of the lake and hills, Eoin surprised Becky when he got down on one knee and proposed in this magical spot.
“The Carolina Inn is the quintessential Chapel Hill venue,” says Becky. “They have an outstanding reputation, and their beautiful courtyards and guestrooms, all-inclusive wedding packages, great staff, and the fact that both of us grew up in Chapel Hill made it the perfect venue for our wedding.”
The bridal party all had strong ties to Chapel Hill as 10 of 12 of our bridesmaids and groomsmen went to Chapel Hill High School with the couple, and the other two went to UNC and ran on the cross-county and track team with Becky.
The colors were gold and teal. Champagne tablecloths and other gold accents paired perfeclty with the Carolina Inn’s classic feel in its courtyards and the Old Well Room. The teal napkins, table numbers, bridesmaid dresses, and other decorations added a contemporary pop of color throughout the spaces, but still allowed the classic beauty of the Carolina Inn to shine.
With lots of family members traveling from Ireland, they started off the celebrations early in the week with a welcome party hosted by the bride’s family, featuring home-brewed beer by the father of the bride. They also planned an after-party at Spanky’s (one of the groom’s favorite memories) and a brunch on Sunday after the wedding hosted by the groom’s parents.
The photography was very important to Becky. She did a lot of research before deciding on the perfect person, Robin Lin Photography, to capture all the happy times captured in the images below.
SB&G PREFERRED VENDOR TESTIMONIALS from the bride
“I was uncertain about having a coordinator for our wedding as I wasn’t sure it was necessary. However, the Carolina Inn requires a day-of coordinator, so my mom and mother-in-law found Emily with Erin McLean Events. Upon meeting, I was convinced too! She was so much fun to work with and provided a lot of useful suggestions and tips. On the wedding day, I couldn’t believe I had initially thought it was unnecessary – her presence was absolutely invaluable. She kept everything on time and running smoothly, and I felt entirely comfortable leaving the coordination in her hands, which left me free to enjoy the day.”
“The Carolina Inn was the perfect venue for us. I worked with Samantha and she was incredibly helpful and responsive throughout the whole process. The venue was beautiful and classic, the food was delicious, and all of our out-of-town guests told us how much they loved their guestrooms, the service, and the event spaces.”
“Robin Lin was definitely one of our favorite vendors. She was the first photographer we met and we knew immediately we didn’t need to look anywhere else. She was professional, friendly, and very easy to talk to. She listened carefully to what we wanted, responded very promptly to all of our questions, and was very knowledgeable and organized. During the engagement shoot and the whole day of the wedding, she made us laugh and feel so comfortable. Both our engagement pictures and wedding pictures turned out better than we were hoping for and we are so happy to have such high quality photographs to remember the day.”
“I had a great experience at Lana Addison. Everyone is very friendly and they have a great selection of beautiful dresses. I ended up choosing a dress that I did not initially like on the hanger, but fell in love with once I put it on. They did all of the alterations in-house and did a great job.”
